    Vanaf september 2026 staat Bernold in het theater met de voorstelling Cassandra.exe, een meeslepende show over onze digitale afhankelijkheid, cybersecurity en de impact van AI.

    Beknopte achtergrond:

    Academie & Onderzoek: promoveerde (2018) en richtte aan de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam het Centre for the Law and Economics of Cyber Security (CLECS) op. Docent aan de Universiteit Leiden en Blikverruimers Academy.

    Ondernemerschap & Bestuur: richtte in 2013 arbeidsmarktbureau CrossOver op (zesvoudig FD Gazellen winnaar, in 2025 overgenomen door Future Works Group). Oprichter van het kennisplatform CyberSecurityBooster in 2021. Vanaf 2025 bestuurslid digitale weerbaarheid bij VNO-NCW MRA.

    Advies & Keynotes: technisch adviseur van de Cyber Security Raad en veelgevraagd spreker bij organisaties als ASML, iBestuur en CEPS.

    Bernold Nieuwesteeg is ondernemer, onderzoeker en theatermaker. Hij werkt op het snijvlak van cybersecurity, digitale autonomie en AI.
    Na zijn promotieonderzoek (2014–2018) richtte hij aan de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam het Centre for the Law and Economics of Cyber Security (CLECS) op, waarmee hij de basis legde voor het vakgebied law and economics of cybersecurity. Vanuit dit centrum ontwikkelde hij initiatieven als de CSAR-Index en het Dutch Cyber Security Lab. In 2021 lanceerde hij het kennisplatform CyberSecurityBooster, waar toonaangevende Nederlandse experts hun inzichten delen met een breed publiek. Sinds 2025 is hij bestuurslid digitale weerbaarheid bij VNO-NCW Metropoolregio Amsterdam.
    Parallel aan zijn academische loopbaan richtte hij in 2013 het arbeidsmarktbureau CrossOver op. Het bedrijf werd meerdere jaren op rij erkend als een van de snelst groeiende ondernemingen van Nederland (zesvoudig FD Gazellen) en werd in 2025 overgenomen door Future Works Group.
    Bernold combineert ondernemerschap, onderzoek en theater. Hij schrijft columns voor AMweb en Data Cyber Security & Privacy (DCSP) en publiceert regelmatig in het Financieele Dagblad (FD), NRC, Binnenlands Bestuur en iBestuur. Daarnaast doceert hij aan de Blikverruimers Academy en het Specialisatieprogramma Cybercrime & Cybersecurity van de Universiteit Leiden, en traint hij bestuurders en raden van toezicht.
    Hij was technisch adviseur van de Cyber Security Raad bij rapporten als Integrale Aanpak Cyberweerbaarheid, Digitale Autonomie en Cybersecurity en de Cyberweerbaarheidskloof. Bernold spreekt regelmatig bij organisaties als ASML, iBestuur, ISOC NL en CEPS over de strategische dimensies van digitale weerbaarheid en autonomie.
    Vanaf 2026 ontwikkelt hij de theatershow Cassandra.exe over cybersecurity, digitale afhankelijkheid en AI.

    Bernold Nieuwesteeg is an entrepreneur, researcher, and theater maker. He works at the intersection of cybersecurity, digital autonomy, and AI.
    Building on his PhD research (2014-2018) and as founder of the Centre for the Law and Economics of Cyber Security at Erasmus University Rotterdam, he laid the foundation for the law and economics of cybersecurity. In the context of this emerging field, he developed initiatives such as the CSAR-Index and the Dutch Cyber Security Lab. In 2021, he launches the cybersecurity knowledge sharing platform CyberSecurityBooster, where national cyber experts share their insights with hundreds of engaged viewers. From 2025 onwards, he is board member cybersecurity at VNO-NCW Metropoolregio Amsterdam.
    In 2013, alongside the start of his research career, he founded the labor market agency CrossOver. Over the years, CrossOver was recognized multiple times (2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023) as one of the fastest-growing companies in the Netherlands, before being acquired by Future Works Group in 2025.
    Bernold combines thought leadership, teaching, and strategic advisory work at the intersection of technology and governance. As a columnist for AMweb and Data Cyber Security & Privacy (DCSP), and a regular contributor to the Dutch Financial Times (FD), NRC, Binnenlands Bestuur, and iBestuur, he explores how digital transformation reshapes society and governance. He lectures at the Blikverruimers Academy and at Leiden University’s Specialization Program on Cybercrime & Cybersecurity, and has trained advisory boards across the Netherlands’ vital sectors.
    As a technical advisor to the Dutch Cyber Security Council, he contributed to key reports such as Integral Approach to Cyber Resilience, Dutch Strategic Autonomy and Cybersecurity, and The Cyber Resilience Gap. He frequently speaks at organizations including ASML, iBestuur, ISOC NL, and CEPS, bringing a strategic perspective on resilience and digital autonomy.
    From 2026, he is developing the theater show Cassandra.exe about cybersecurity, digital dependency, and AI.
